VAGUE TRANSACTIONS

Christoph Hoeschele & Leo Trotsenko

06.12.-13.12.24

A truly "polite" exhibition—ah, but what does politeness mean in this context? It is not mere civility, but a form of radical openness, a willingness to embrace both the sublime and the ridiculous of human interaction. "Vague Transactions" epitomizes this paradox, presenting itself as a space where art and good manners intersect, not without friction, but precisely through it.”

The video "Servus!" is dedicated to the break in communication and detachment from home. This work was born out of the surprise of the coexistence of several worlds at the Central Cemetery and the airport, which are located near each other in Vienna. At the intersection of the worlds of memory culture and a place to walk or spend time as a tourist, an ephemeral character appears, wondering and watching the airplanes flying low. He unsuccessfully tries to connect the different worlds as if by means of a spell called Servus. Ultimately, the story in the video speaks of numbness and isolation, the difficulty of dialog, time differences and communication gaps, and a journey towards oneself, through central Europe and Austria, and away from oneself, home.
